law of attraction: why it's simple but not always easy

This is the disclaimer I always want to give people who are learning about law of attraction, so they don’t assume they can produce a million dollars in their first week: this process seems really simple, but we’re humans and we like to get in our own way so it’s not always easy. We get attached to outcomes and create resistance so that the Universe isn’t able to get what we want to us. It’s like trying to play a song from your phone and not hearing it come through the Bluetooth speaker. If you’re not connected/on the right channel, the music can’t come through even though it’s playing. We prevent the good stuff from coming through a lot.

Law of Attraction really does boil down to a few steps. To quote Abraham Hicks, here is the process:

1. Ask

2. It Is Given

3. Allow

4. Uncondition

5. Welcome Contrast

For the purpose of this argument, we only really need to look at steps 1-3. Steps 1 and 2 are FREAKING EASY. They happen all the time without us even knowing it. Asking (step 1) only means that we have a preference. You don’t like the flavor of cream cheese on your bagel? You’re asking for a better flavor next time. You don’t like getting a chatty cab driver at 5 am on the way to the airport? You’re asking for a quiet ride next time. You don’t like getting underpaid for your work? You’re asking for more money next time!

And step 2 is just ‘it is given.’ Literally you don’t have to do anything. This is the part where the Universe spins up whatever it is that you want. They make the stars align and work things in your favor so you get what you want. Pretty magical and super easy.

The problem is with step 3. And unfortunately, it’s our own shit that gets in the way. We need to allow. In order to allow, we have to be a vibrational match for what we want. It’s not easy to feel wealthy when we’re broke as a joke and about to miss rent. Definitely not easy, right? So this resistance that we’re creating is what’s preventing us from allowing. My boy Brad says, “the extent to which you don’t have something in your life is the extent to which you’re resisting it.” That’s actually reassuring to me because it means that it’s totally on me to fix it. Once you stop resisting and allow, you can receive everything that the Universe has created for you based on your desires or “asks.”

There you have it. A very simple process – 1,2,3. But not easy. In fact, some would say hard. Because the more you’re attached to the outcome, the more resistance you have. Allowing on a subject that you’re especially attached to is difficult and can take time, but don’t be discouraged. The more you practice at it, the easier it is. Here are a few of my favorite Abraham quotes on allowing to give you some inspiration:

  • The closer you are to alignment with what you want, the calmer it feels.

  • You’re always, always, always going to be on your way to something more – always. And when you relax and accept that, and stop beating up on yourself for not being someplace that you’re not and instead, start embracing where you are while you keep your eye on where you’re going, now life becomes really, really, really fun.

  • You want to practice the thoughts of the outcome that you want until you own them so completely that there is ease within you. Then, it happens.

  • You’ve got to stop noticing its absence, and start feeling for the satisfaction of its becoming.

  • Sitting and contemplating pleasurable thoughts is the most productive thing you can do.

  • It’s not your work to make anything happen. It’s your work to dream it and let it happen.

I’m currently working on allowing myself! More money, my ideal body, brand growth – all things I’m clearing resistance around daily to receive what’s waiting for me. What are you hoping to allow?
