a colorful, modern wedding

Let me tell you a tale of the greatest party ever. The fact that it was the best party ever is practically a miracle because let me tell you - wedding planning was not my forte. So all of the credit goes to the people who helped put it together - namely my mom. She made decisions when I didn’t want to and organized most everything. We also had AMAZING vendors. I mean LOOK AT THOSE FLOWERS! Here’s a little bit about our day and how everything came together.

white shirt dress for spring

I put this outfit on and immediately loved the combo. It’s incredibly comfortable while still looking nice. It’s also easy to elevate with a swap of the sandals for a pair of espadrille heels or leopard flats. This black cardigan goes with just about anything, but is especially nice for this time of year when it’s not cold but not quite warm either.

spring style inspiration

After a week in palm springs, i’m ready to fully embrace warm weather style. It’s not quite warm enough in Raleigh just yet and half my clothes still need to be unpacked, but a girl can dream! I’ve been thinking a lot recently about what makes a killer wardrobe and I think the key ingredient is feeling awesome about every aspect - style, fit, comfort. This spring comfort is really calling my name and I want all the comfy pants! And no, that doesn’t only mean leggings and sneaks… What it does mean is:

an accidental capsule wardrobe

Given that I had to pack a capsule-ish wardrobe for our 3 weeks of transition time during the moves, I went very neutral with my choices - mostly blacks, whites, tans, and a little blue here and there. These shoes and the top are two pieces I routinely grab when I can’t come up with another outfit. Since I had to narrow my wardrobe down to essentials, I ended up going with my tried and true favorites. Here are a few things that made the cut:

march resolution: embracing winter style

I know that come March, most people are dying for winter to be over. I hate sitting in a waiting mentality though and so instead, I’ve decided this year to really embrace the cold weather style for the next month and then once March is over, I’ll let myself go whole hog into the warm weather attitude. This does two things: prevents me from sitting in the bad attitude of “I hate cold weather” and allows me to look at my clothing from a “what do I want to wear more of before I can’t wear it anymore.”

what i'm packing for mexico

It’s almost here! Every year, I get the winter blues and I find the best way to help is to get away somewhere warm. This year, we’re headed to Tulum, Mexico and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s my first time in Mexico and I don’t speak a lick of Spanish, but I’m so ready for tequila, tacos and SUN. Packing for a warm weather trip in the middle of winter is a very strange thing, but I think the stark contrast makes it a little easier to identify your favorite summer items since it’s been so long since you’ve worn them. Here’s a look at what I’m packing…

winter athleisure

My athleisure outfits are still going strong well into the winter months, but they does require a few adjustments to contend with the cold. I am a big fan of an oversized down vest because you can throw it over practically anything. It has big pockets so it's great for a wallet + phone combo for taking a walk or running errands. It's also warm so I can throw it on if I'm running to grab the mail or heading to the gym.

a little january color

In keeping with the idea of finding something uplifting to mix up the January blahs, here’s a colorful outfit to get you through the colder months. It was actually sunny for a hot second while we were taking these pictures, which was amazing, but one of the reasons I love this sweater is because it’s super warm and comfortable. Warm + stripes + color + bell sleeves = the perfect sweater.

my winter bar cart

Normally, I’m a Christmas decorations until January 1 type of person, but this year I went ahead and swapped out our bar cart before we came home for Christmas so it’s one less thing I have left to do when we get back. Originally, I was thinking about going with a buffalo plaid cocktail napkin and doing heavier decorations, but once I pulled out the champagne glasses and remembered my mini string lights, I knew a simple gold theme was in order.

a custom vanity made for a cat

See, we used to have a litter box in our pantry, but when we redid our kitchen, the pantry didn’t exist any longer. I needed to figure out a solution for hiding the cat box because there was no way I was just going to leave it sitting on our floor and I really didn’t want to relocate it to one of our upstairs bathrooms, so I hatched a plan to include it with our half bath vanity.

athleisure 3 ways

Everyone says it’s important to get up and get dressed when working from home and I definitely agree, but it just feels pointless to put on a nice outfit just to walk upstairs and sit at my computer. But since I know the power of feeling good in what you’re wearing, I’ve come up with a few athleisure options that make me feel confident and comfortable at the same time.
